It's no secret that tough times have hit the entire Washington region, and in a number of cases Prince George's County has been hit especially hard. For example, the County's unemployment rate is 7.6% -- the second-highest in our region. Nearly 90,000 County residents rely on food stamps each day. And some 45,000 County residents face foreclosure. Meanwhile, the lines at our food banks grow longer, and more and more individuals and families are seeking shelter and emergency medical care, among other basic services.
In response, we've just launched our new Neighbors in Need Prince George's grant fund. A cousin of The Community Foundation for the National Capital Region's Neighbors in Need Fund, Neighbors in Need Prince George's will make grants to nonprofits serving needy residents of Prince George's County.
But we can't do it without you. We've set an initial fundraising goal of $200,000...so join us in assisting our most vulnerable neighbors by making a tax-deductible gift to this important new fund. Simply click on the button below and make your gift online.
